Montana Gravel Backcountry – 2024

2 Minute Video Montage

Day 1

Gravel Montana Day 1, The Cycling House: today’s shake-out ride took us round trip from our ranch out to a junction of the Blackfoot River. The roads here are basically smooth hard packed dirt and generally well-maintained. Memory of note: training the crew of 12 to use bear spray since this is grizzly country. 18 miles and 900ft.

Day 2

Montana Gravel Day 2 – the long and climbing route to Ovando. Today was a long climb into the mountains. Beautiful big sky country and a relentless back country climb. 41 miles and 3200ft.

Day 3

Montana Gravel Day 3 – Ride the Divide. Huge day riding and climbing, the king stage. Amazing scenery and unexpected hike a bike through snow. 49 miles and 4400 feet climbing, my biggest gravel day yet.

Day 4

Montana Gravel Day 4 – Big Sky County and Cooper Lake, a recovery day. And who knew bacon and pb&j is so good for riding. 43 Miles and 1700ft.

Day 5

Montana Gravel Day 5 – Partial day, returning for the Berkeley Bayit event tomorrow am. A simple out and back in Big Sky Country
